We had a very unique 4th of July this year, and I can think of about a million different ways I would have rather spent it. But circumstances being as they were, I'm grateful for the funeral of Jake's friend Kage to have been on that day. Honoring Kage was the perfect start to celebrating all this country stands for, and what he died protecting. The freedoms we enjoy are not free. So many have given their lives so that we can live in this great country. With all 4th of July events cancelled, especially in a year when I think we needed them the most, I'm grateful for the chance we had to reflect of that that morning.

Long before Covid started I bought these matching ties for these guys to wear to church on the day after the 4th. Then church got cancelled and I was bummed because they weren't going to get to wear them. They did get to match in them, definitely not for what I intended them to wear them to. But they came in handy.
My family went camping the weekend, but we obviously didn't go and stayed home to be able to help and go to Kage's viewing and funeral. After the graveside service we went home to get changed and spend the rest of the day with them, and then made a very last minute decision to stay and camp too. So we got home and Jake hooked up the trailer to the car while I threw clothes and any food I could find in the basket and threw it in the trailer and we were off. It was perfect to get away from everything and into the mountains for a while.
Another spur of the moment decision was to head to Provo to watch the Stadium of Fire fireworks, since Stadium of Fire was cancelled they were just going all out on fireworks. So we headed to Utah County stopped and got some BBQ and Crumbl cookies, and went and watched the fire works with my aunt and uncle and cousins. It ended up being a pretty great day. one we won't soon forget.
