Fair and Harley's Birthday

I'm getting so behind on blogging again! I honestly thought August was going to be our month that finally slowed down...but it has been so busy! It's been good though. The fair was a few weeks ago, one of our favorite weeks of the year, and the derby is one of our favorite parts of that. The kids really loved it this year, especially Harley!

The next day was Harley's birthday!! I can't believe this guy is 2 already. It is nuts. We had our traditional birthday pancakes, sprinkles for Harley. 

After breakfast we headed to the fair and spent the day there. 

Birthday cake and presents. He got his favorite things cars, trucks, and a four wheeler. 

This has been his favorite thing ever. He rides it for hours daily, it is so cute. We took it camping with us last week and he rode it all around the campground the whole weekend. Everyone would stop and laugh at him and talk to him. I'm really glad that we got it for him. 

That night we went to dinner at Chili's, then to the drive in movie with Colton and Haley. I'm going to miss these summer nights at the drive in!

Saturday morning we went back to the fair!!! We spent hours playing on the slip and slide and bounce slides. 

That night was the rodeo. Grandma got Harley his first cotton candy and boy was he happy about it.

It was a great week! And a great birthday!!

Jake's Birthday at Boondocks

Every year the hospital that I work at has a huge summer BBQ party. The past two years it has been at a really fun place called Boondocks. This year it happened to be scheduled on Jake's birthday. I asked him when they announced that if he wanted to go to it or do something else for his birthday, and he said he wanted to go. It works out because the dinner than they serve is a really delicious BBQ dinner with brisket and barbecue chicken and pork, so he was happy. Then we spent the rest of the night playing!

These pictures kill me. Emery is super competitive, she would get so happy when she would do well. It was so funny. She actually is really good, she beat all of us...and the lane next to us had 4 adults playing and she beat all 4 of them too...haha

We did race cars, arcade games, bounce houses, rope playground, bowling, and finished off the night with mini golf. 

After we got home I gave Jake his birthday present he had been begging for for years...He was pretty happy!

Our NEW house!

Well we FINALLY started. This process has taken months longer than I expected it to. We really thought we would be digging by mid-late June. Then when we had a few things happen we figured early July...then other things took FOREVER (building permits...) and here we are mid-August and finally starting. But we are SO excited. I literally go to this lot at least twice a day because I am so happy it is finally moving. So here is our lot before we started, all the excavator had done is dig for our water and our sewer. We have gorgeous views out our backyard!

So on Friday August 12th we met with our excavator because there was a problem. Because of the shape and size of our lot it was going to cost thousands more to do our suspended slab that we had planned than we originally thought. Typically what they can do is dig down but spread out a lot of the dirt around your lot, but with how everything is there it wasn't working. So they estimated about $7000 extra just to haul off all of the dirt for that slab. It would also cause problems with our driveway making us have a super steep driveway which I had said from the beginning I really didn't want. So we decided to not do the slab. Both Jake and I were really bummed, but it's okay. It does take out about 800 sq feet that we really would have loved, but it's okay. It is still going to be a really big house without it. It was a storage room and a movie theater that was going in there. The movie theater we can for sure live without, but I was really worried about storage. So our excavator made some adjustments to our garage. So we will now have a really big storage area in the top of our garage to make up for it. So that is good. 

 Once we got that all figured out they could move forward with the digging. They started this on Monday August 15th. This has definitely been Harley's favorite part. He is obsessed with all things tractor and truck. He had so much fun climbing in this bucket, and watching them dig. He would just plop down and stare. 

Pouring the footings. We actually got really lucky this happened so fast. On Wednesday morning I went over and just happened to get there at the same time as the footings guys. But the excavation wasn't done. They were in a big hurry, like all construction people are these days we are learning. Every one is booked out for weeks. And they said that if they couldn't start right then they couldn't come back for another week and a half (which as I am writing this still wouldn't be for 2 more days!) Luckily our excavator is awesome and said he would get it done but they could start on the opposite side of him right then. Wahoo. So that day we got the footing set and then that evening they were poured. It was a mad house on our street. There were 4 cement trucks. But they got it all done. 

Then we were back to more waiting. I was hoping the foundation guys could come on Thursday and start, but they were busy. So the soonest they could make it was Monday, yesterday. 

So they started laying out forms for the foundation. 

And as of a few hours ago this is how far they were! I don't know how late they were working, but I am hoping they finished getting them all set today, so hopefully tomorrow we have concrete coming in again! Then we'll be waiting again for the foundations to cure. 

Hopefully we'll be starting framing the first week of September! And I am really hoping that goes VERY fast. But who knows. 

So that's were we are so far! I can't wait for it be finished!

Pioneer Day Weekend 2016

The Kilmer Family Reunion this year happened to be over Pioneer Day weekend. We went to Gooseberry Reservoir up Fairview Canyon. It was really fun. Very beautiful, and full of a LOT of dirt!

I know this picture is blurry, but it was the only one I got of these three on the four wheeler so I'm keeping it! These girls would live on these if we let them. 

We were camped a few miles from the actual reservoir, but we just 1-2 minutes on the four wheelers from this awesome lake. We came here whenever we needed to cool off, or clean off. We actually did full on baths here in swimming suits for all of our kids one day because they were so dang dirty. I am okay with the kids getting and being dirty. But this dirt was a special kind of dirty!! 

Not long after I took these pictures I saw a leech on Harley's diaper. So Jake pulled him out to get it off and we saw one on his foot too! It was already latched on, I DO NOT do gross bugs like that. I wanted to run away. But I had to hold Harley down so that Jake could cut that dumb thing off of him! I couldn't even watch I was so grossed out. Give me all the blood and guts in the world and I am fine, but leeches? Disgusting. 

Harley had so much fun with his two "Ma's". 

Uncle Mike brought his new baby kitties, which meant our kitty lovin' kids were in kitty heaven. All four kittens left with names, and Emery has even decided we are bringing one of them home. He was a pretty dang sweet kitty so I'm okay with it.

I wish I could say this was even the dirtiest that these kids had gotten, but it wasn't by a long shot. This was AFTER the previously mentioned bath, and also after having their hands and faces washed again not more than an hour before. They were seriously so dirty. 

Jake still had Monday off work, but we decided to leave Sunday night. (We went on Thursday). So Monday we went and did some other fun things. 

Unofficially we've started somewhat of a "go to Park City for the 24th" tradition. We've done it 3 or 4 times now, so maybe we should just stick with it. We went to Olympic park again. Watched some bobsledding, some aerial skiing, played on the rock wall and ropes course, and rode the chair lift. We went with the original intention of riding the Alpine Slides, but the wait was an hour long we decided to bag it. 

After that we met up with our friends Chance and Anna in Salt Lake. We got snow cones and then went out to dinner. After dinner went and played at Sugarhouse Park (our favorite Salt Lake Park!!) 

It was a great holiday weekend. I only wish it had lasted longer!
