The 4th of July has always been my very favorite holiday. I am ok with working parts of Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc...but not the 4th. It is the holiday I had the hardest time thinking about having to work when I became a nurse but luckily I never had to work one! Jake and I started off the day with the 4th of July 5k. And true to tradition Jake's allergies flared up and his eyes started to swell (like he is swowing :)) But luckily as soon as we left the part to go home it went down and didn't get bad the rest of the day! Jake did really good, he says he didn't do as well as he would've liked, he wanted to finish in under 20 minutes, but he finished in 21 so I wouldn't say it was too bad. He took 2nd in his age division (20-29). After we finished we went to go pick up Emery she had a sleepover with Grandma and Grandpa since we had to get up early. This girl is NOT an early riser...she doesn't roll out of bed before 8 most days. haha.
After picking her up we all headed back to the park to the parade. It was really good this year! (small town parades are unique :)) These F-16s from Hill AFB flew over to start it off.
Emery got her one piece of candy and played with it the whole time. Perfect amount I think...now if I can convince her of that at the parade next year....
She does not like the feeling of grass...haha
Aunt Shayli in the parade for Cheerleading.
Emery LOVES to be held upside down...I have no idea why. She has for months. You really have to pay attention when you are holding her because you will be holding her normal and she will just fling herself backwards to hang upside down. Silly kid.
After the parade we walked around the booths, visited with friends, grabbed some lunch, and then hit the swing set. She loves the swings. I have no pictures of her smiling on the the swings though because she stops smiling when I stop the swing, but all the pictures are blurry if I don't. Oh well.
By this time she was pooped! She fell asleep before we could drive out of the parking lot.
After a nap she decided to hit up Grandma's new pool she bought her the night before. She loved it, of course, any water is great to her. She played and played with her Otter Pop, sunglasses, and hat, until we decided that was enough sun for now.
We only had one tipping over accident. haha. She was a trooper and got back in after a few loves.
After that we came back inside and she instantly went to her new car Grandma just got her. She is still trying to figure out how to 'go', but she has figured out the getting on and off thing. She just likes you to push her around once she is on.
That evening we had a yummy hamburger barbecue before heading back down to the high school for the annual free concert. This year it was a guy named Eric Dodge. He was really good! We had a lot of fun listening to his songs, covers he has down, and Emery had fun just dancing.
Emery ate her dinner during the concert. Unfortunately due to the extreme fire conditions in Utah right now, and the 9 current burning wildfires in Utah right now, fireworks are banned in the country. So no fireworks for us this 4th...We are hoping that by the 24th though we will have gotten enough rain to do some!
I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July! I am so grateful for all of the men and women, past and present, fighting to keep our country free, and safe. Particularly Emery's Uncle Matt. We miss him so much!
Stay safe and come home soon!
